All teachers, myself included, will tell parents (and anyone who will listen) how important homework is to the education of children. Homework activities keep parents involved in the education of their children, as well as provide important opportunities for review and expansion in lessons. Unfortunately, homework can also come between a child and another important aspect of their education: the exploration of their world through play. Children need time each day to be children. They need to make up games, and run around, make and lose friends, learn about themselves and others. Extra-curricular activities also play an important role in a child's life, but are time-consuming for children and their families. For this reason, I will send home a packet of homework each week, with a suggested grid for when to complete activities. I do suggest completing the activities throughout the week, even if you do not follow my suggested grid, as this encourages children to take ownership of their work. All homework packets will be due on Friday (or the last day of the week).
